Middle School Math Specialists
Jeanne currently serves as a Secondary Math Specialist for AMSTI-UAH. She taught middle and high school mathematics for seventeen years before becoming a Math Specialist for the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative in 2007. She holds National Board Certification in Early Adolescent Mathematics, and she has master's degrees in Integrating Classroom Technology and in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Jeanne is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance, and a member of the Executive Board of the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is also an Illustrative Mathematics certified facilitator.
Le Shell Smith
Le Shell Smith is currently a Secondary Mathematics Specialist at AMSTI-UAH. Prior to her current position, Le Shell was a secondary mathematics teacher. Le Shell has experience teaching seventh grade through AP Calculus. In 2000 and 2014, she was named teacher of the year for her district. She is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. Le Shell develops and pilots professional learning to meet the needs of educators in our state. She serves as president of the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance. She is also a member of the Alabama Council of Teacher of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.
Middle School Science Specialist
Mary is currently the Middle Grades Science Specialist at AMSTI-UAH. She also serves as a member of the AMSTI Digital Literacy & Computer Science Committee and the AMSTI STEM Committee. She taught middle school science for 25 year before joining AMSTI. During that time, she was named Mobile County Public School's Outstanding Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2003 and Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2008. Mary is a member of the National Science Teaching Association, the Alabama Science Teachers Association, and the Alabama Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
