Jeanne Simpson

Jeanne currently serves as a Secondary Math Specialist for AMSTI-UAH. She taught middle and high school mathematics for seventeen years before becoming a Math Specialist for the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative in 2007. She holds a National Board Certification in Early Adolescent Mathematics, and she has master's degrees in Integrating Classroom Technology and in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Jeanne is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance, and a member of the Executive Board of the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is also an Illustrative Mathematics certified facilitator.

Le Shell Smith

Le Shell Smith is currently a Secondary Mathematics Specialist at AMSTI-UAH. Prior to her current position, Le Shell was a secondary mathematics teacher. Le Shell has experience teaching seventh grade through AP Calculus. In 2000 and 2014, she was named teacher of the year for her district. She is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. Le Shell develops and pilots professional learning to meet the needs of educators in our state. She serves as president of the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance. She is also a member of the Alabama Council of Teacher of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.

Physical Sciences Specialist

Dr. Charles Holloway

Charles currently serves as the ASIM Physical Sciences Specialist AMSTI-UAH working with chemistry, physics, and physical science. Prior to joining the AMSTI-UAH team he worked at the Alabama State Department of Education as a State Science Specialist. With a strong desire to return to working with students and teachers as well as returning home to north Alabama, Charles came to UAH in August of 2021. Charles has a total of 21 years of teaching experience and has taught high school Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Science. During his time in the classroom he taught IB, AP, Honors, Special Science Inclusion classes, and ELL students. He was named Decatur City New Teacher of the year in 2004 and Priceville High School Teacher of the year in 2019. He believes in the power of hands-on instruction and wrote his doctoral dissertation on Inquiry-based Instruction in Chemistry in the High School Classroom. Charles is a member of the National Science Teaching Association, the Alabama Science Teachers Association, and the Alabama Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.

Biology Specialist

Mylina Dillard

Ms. Mylina Samples Dillard is the Alabama Science in Motion Biology Specialist for the AAMU/UAH In-service Center. Mylina previously served as a 7th grade science teacher at Huntsville Junior High School. During her science career, she has taught 7th grade life science, 8th grade physical science, biology, physical science, environmental science, anatomy and physiology, AP biology, forensics, applied biology/physical science, applied math, and psychology. She has GLOBE, AMSTI, ASIM, ARI-PALS, Microsoft Educator, and Apple certifications. She also worked with Workforce Development at Snead State Community College and Wallace State Community College where she participated in summer Biotechnology programs with HudsonAlpha. She has been named Who’s Who Among America’s High School Teachers three times. She was also chosen as one of fifty middle school teachers across the nation to participate in the Society for Science and the Public middle school conference. Mylina holds an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Alabama, a Master’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama, Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Biology & Psychology from Jacksonville State University, and an Associate’s degree from Snead State Community College. She also has an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification from Gadsden State Community College. She has been a certified EMT for 20 years and is a certified basic emergency instructor, also CPR/AED instructor through American Heart.
