High School Math Specialists
Jeanne currently serves as a Secondary Math Specialist for AMSTI-UAH. She taught middle and high school mathematics for seventeen years before becoming a Math Specialist for the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative in 2007. She holds a National Board Certification in Early Adolescent Mathematics, and she has master's degrees in Integrating Classroom Technology and in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Jeanne is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance, and a member of the Executive Board of the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is also an Illustrative Mathematics certified facilitator.
Le Shell Smith
Le Shell Smith is currently a Secondary Mathematics Specialist at AMSTI-UAH. Prior to her current position, Le Shell was a secondary mathematics teacher. Le Shell has experience teaching seventh grade through AP Calculus. In 2000 and 2014, she was named teacher of the year for her district. She is an Alabama OGAP facilitator for Fractional and Proportional Reasoning. Le Shell develops and pilots professional learning to meet the needs of educators in our state. She serves as president of the Alabama Mathematics Leadership Alliance. She is also a member of the Alabama Council of Teacher of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.
High School Science Specialists
Shanin Edwards is currently the 9-12 Chemistry Specialist for Alabama Science in Motion. She started her career at Litchfield High School in Gadsden, then moved to KDS DAR High School in Grant, then finished out her first 15 years of teaching at Asbury High School in Albertville. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, and a Master’s degree in secondary education Biology. She holds a Class A teaching certificate in General Science and a Class B teaching certificate in Biology. She is a member of the Alabama Science Teachers Association.
Glen Fox is currently the ASIM Biology Specialist at Alabama A&M University. He has served as a College Board reader for the AP Biology exam since 2015. He has served as an adjunct Instructor for Snead State Community College since 1999. He is a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers and the Alabama Science Teachers Association. Glen has a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Anthropology, and a Master’s degree in secondary education Biology. He also has his Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Secondary Science. He holds a Class AA teaching certificate in Biology.
Steve Owens is currently the 9-12 Physics Specialist for Alabama Science in Motion. He started his career as a teacher at Valley Head School in Dekalb County. He was there for the first seven years of his teaching career before moving to Albertville High School for the last 15 years. Steve has also been an adjunct professor at Snead State Community College for more than a decade. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in General Science Education from Auburn University and a Master’s Degree in Biology Education from the University of Alabama.
